Blessings

For some reason, today is kind of a "blah" day for me, so I thought I should write down some of the blessings in my life. A little pick me up, if you will......

~My awesome, adorable husband. I can't believe we've been married almost eight years. It seems like forever, yet it's gone by in the blink of an eye! I love you babe and I probably don't tell you that as much as I should.

~My family......we've been through so much these past couple of years. We've had our ups and downs, but I can't imagine going through the trials with anyone else. We've laughed, cried, yelled and enjoyed life. Here's to you guys! You're the best!

~A wonderful place to live. We love living in Utah. We love the change in seasons, especially right now when all of the leaves are changing colors. It's so nice to be able to go on a walk, or drive up the canyon and see nature all around us. There's just so much to see and do, it's almost impossible to get to everything. But, we're trying....

~We have the best friends in the world! I don't know what we (and I mean me) would do without them. They've been with us through the worst, and I mean the absolute worst. They've offered us shoulders to cry on, venting opportunities and quiet understanding. They offer unconditional love and I know that they will always be there for us.

~Our membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I think growing up in the Church I tend to forget, or not really think about all the blessing it brings to my life. We attended a convert baptism a couple of weeks ago (my first) and it was wonderful to look at their faces and see their joy. Our ward right now is huge. Usually we have anywhere from 250-300+ people attend Sacrament alone. A couple of weeks we had the opportunity to speak (which I hate) but I was so glad we did. After that we've had several people come up and ask us if we were the ones that spoke. It's opened a door where more people recognize us and as a result, we've been able to get to know more people. In a ward that's as big as ours, it's kind of hard to get to know people, so the end result was a huge blessing. I'm also grateful that I'm forever sealed to my sweetie. I know that it doesn't matter how much we get frustrated/mad at each other. The frustrations are just a small blip in this thing we call life. I was thinking the other day about how it's almost the year mark where I got pregnant and lost the baby. I know that little spirit was a boy and I know that he's ours. Someday, somehow we'll be able to see and hold him, if not in this life, then the next. Until then, we'll just remember him and continue to love him.

~We have great jobs and work with great people. In this day and age the economy is a pretty scary thing. I'm so grateful we're able to go to our jobs on a day to day basis and have the talents and knowledge to be able to be good at them. Although going to work every day can sometimes seem like the biggest drudgery, it's worth it!

~I think the last blessing would have to be all the small things that on a day to day basis bring joy to our lives. It could be a smile from a friend or co-worker, an unexpected surprise, your spouse having dinner ready when you get home from a long, stressful day, the innocent laugh of a child, or simply a beautiful autumn day. It doesn't matter.....all the little things add up. We are so blessed, sometimes we just need a kick in the butt to see it.

Okay, I feel better now......I guess it's not such a "blah" day after all!

5k Fun

This morning was the Top of Utah 5k and marathon. Initially all of us (Britt, Alan & I) were signed up for the full marathon (26.2 miles) but none of us trained. So, we decided to do the 5k instead. Nestle Quick was one of the sponsors, thus the bunny man. What's funny is that he ran the 5k in full bunny outfit in 20 freakin' minutes! For those of you who aren't sure how long a 5k is, it's 3.2 miles. We were a little slower.....we'll just leave it at that. I had to get a picture with the sign in the background. Crap! Did I come in with clothes on? Thanks Britt & Kirk for coming down, it was a ton of fun!

Logan Canyon

We went up to Logan last night to pick up our packets for the Top of Utah 5k. It's kind of hard to see the brilliant colors of the leaves because it was starting to get dark, but the whole ride up was absolutely beautiful.

Fun with the Cravens

Last Saturday we went over to the Craven's house for a bbq/rock band party. The Jacksters thought it would be fun to eat chocolate cookies and then try and blow her whistle. She was "cheesing" in this picture.

Congratulations to the Coles!

Last month Alan was out working on his bug when the missionaries approached him and asked if he was a member, etc, etc. They were working with a family that lives a couple of houses down (the mom wasn't active and neither the dad or little boy had been baptized) and wondered if Alan would be willing to come to the discussions as he was a part of the ward. Alan, being the great missionary he is, said yes and today the family got baptized! So, we'd like to give a warm welcome to the newest members of the church! We're so excited for them and Alan will help in the confirmation tomorrow during Sacrament. This was the first convert baptism I've ever attended, so it was a neat experience for me.

Just Having Fun

I told Alan I wanted a picture in front of my new awesome picture. We had just gotten home from a baptism and thought it would be a good time for a picture.

My awesome new picture

I've wanted one of these pictures forever! Deseret Book first came out with them a couple of years ago, but they are so stinking expensive. For a 24 x 47 picture like this one they're usually about $450.00 and I could never justify spending that much money on a picture. But, a friend of mine picked this up the other day at Costco for not even half the price, yeah, yeah, yeah! Another company was selling them (it's not the exact same artist that Deseret Book has, but it's really close) and I was soooo excited. I made Alan hang it up for me the night we got it. Alan said I should have put the title of this post as, "We're so old, this is what the Temple looked like when we got married." Speak for yourself!

To Dye or Not to Dye?

To dye (of course!) In honor of fall and the leaves changing color, I also decided to change color. For those of you who know me well, you know I get REALLY bored with my hair. I've been blonde for quite a while but decided it was time to go dark again. Usually when I start the darkening process it takes at least two or three dye jobs to get it dark. Guess my hair had other ideas this time. My hairdresser said she loves it when I come in because I really don't care what she does. As long as the cut and color look good, it's all good! Usually it's more of a reddish or carmel brown, but she decided to go straight brown this time. Next time, who knows what we'll get! Guess you'll just have to wait and see!

Sodding Party

Our friends the Craven's told us last Saturday they were having a pizza party around 3:00 or so and we should come. It was all a ruse.....they really wanted help laying sod. They were finishing up their yard and asked if Alan could help lay the sod once it came. I came along for moral support and to supervise (hey, you never know with these guys!) Plus a huge bonus was spending some time with Nat and the new baby! Doesn't Stevie look manly?

Cleaning Machine

This is footage rarely taken......Alan cleaning. Just kidding! He's actually very good at helping me out around the house. For a little extra of the green stuff, we clean my office every week. Alan usually volunteers to vacuums so I can clean bathrooms, isn't he sweet?

Cutest table ever.

So a few weeks ago Marisa got this "hecka cute" table to go behind our couch. She asked me to put it together, and being the good husband that I am, of course I did. What I did not know was that it it would have been easier to fly a steel kite than put this together. Most confusing instructions ever! Needless to say... one hour later it was finally done. Hence in one picture, I'm happy to help, and in the next I'm a little less than thrilled. But our room is so cute now!

Okay.....so I'm finally done for the night. There are too many good pictures that I wanted to add and not enough time. I can see why people really get into blogging, it's so much fun! I have to admit, though, I'm a total blog stalker. I love looking at random people's blogs.....for ideas of course! But, welcome to our blog and we hope you enjoy!

I LOVE Walmart!

On Monday I had to stop at the good ol' local Walmart to pick up some things for a bbq that night. Walmart is always an adventure and is usually good for some laughs. So, while shopping what did I run into? This awesome.......creature. So what did I do? Take a picture with him, of course! What would you have done? It's too good to pass up! Not sure who the kid on the right is.....I assume he was with the swamp creature.

Tee Hee!

Lyssy didn't want me taking her picture so she decided to hide behind the pie menu. But, sucks to be her because I'm posting this anyway! Love you Lyss!

Breakfast Time!

On Labor Day Alan, my little sister Alyssa and I went out to breakfast in the morning. I love this picture because Alan totally looks like he's stoned! He kept dipping his nose in his hot chocolate and talking like nothing was wrong. What a dork! But, he's my dork!

The Studs!

Adam Stoddard, Alan, Dan Burton, Doug Hayes & Donny Hayes....aren't they studly?

The whole gang!

On Sunday we went down to Orem, Utah to attend a baby blessing for Dan Burton's little boy. Some of our friends which we haven't seen in almost six years came up for the blessing from California. It was so much fun to see everyone again and catch up. It's crazy how we don't seem to age, but then you see their kids and how grown up they are and you realize how stinkin' old your getting! Ugh! We definitely need to get together more often!

Sleeping Beauty

This past Saturday Alan had to get up at 5:00 am because he was playing at a wedding at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi, Utah. Later that night I kept yelling for him because I needed his help, but never got a response. When I got downstairs I found him asleep on the couch. I took three pictures of him (with the flash) and he didn't move once. My poor tired baby!

Hurry it up!

We went to the Living Aquarium in Sandy, Utah during our "date nite" weekend. Can you tell that Alan was not exactly thrilled when I wanted to take his picture?

SLC Temple

We tried to get the reflection pond that's in front of the temple but couldn't quite get everything in.

To GQ or not to GQ?

Alan said he wanted to title this, "Alan is so cool!" Hmmm.........

Salt Lake Temple

Not so candid

During out "date nite" weekend Alan surprised me with dinner at The Roof in the Joseph Smith Building. We had a little time to kill before our reservations.......

Date Night in SLC

Alan is such a thoughtful husband that he planned out a whole romantic weekend in the city. What a hunk!!!

Well here we are!

We are sooo cool. We now have a blog like the rest of the world. Yay for technology!
