See this guy? Yeah, he's pretty much the best. Seriously. Such a great guy. I'm so grateful to be married to him and have him in my life. He's my best friend and I really appreciate all he does for me. For my birthday this year he started a birthday countdown on facebook ten days prior to the "big day." I wanted to make sure I journal them so I don't forget!
Day 1: Her eyes. When I would meet a girl for the first time I would first check out her eyes. If you have ever talked to Maris, you would notice she has the most amazing blue eyes. They are really easy to look at.
Today is day 2: Creativity... I may have married the most craft talented person ever. I whine and moan about our craft store/ downstairs bedroom, but I am simply amazed at what she can manage to put together. If you have not seen her blog, you should check it out. She does some "cute" things.
Day 3: Laugh! A lot of people say laughter is contagious, well I think Marisa's laugh is contagious. Sometimes when we are hanging out, we get what we call "the stupids" which is when we laugh for no reason at all... uncontrollably. Her laugh can get a little crazy sometimes, and it just cracks me up
Day 4: Encouragement! It seems no matter what I choose to do, Maris is my #1 cheerleader. I'm not the most "studious" person in the world, and while I someday would like to go back to school, she doesn't force the issue. She always tells me " whatever makes me happy". I love to run, and I am my #1 critic, but she always says how good of a job I do, even if I think it is crap. Thanks babe for always backing me 100%!
Day 5: Thoughtfulness... You ever hear the expression, that person carries a heart the size of their head in their chest? That's my missus. Seems like she's always doing something for someone. Often with out the thought of any reward.
Day 6: Positivity... When I think of positivity, I not only think of being happy, it's more than that. To me it's making the best of whatever you have, sometimes making the best out of the worst. We've been through a lot in our marriage. At times I think the worst at the worst. Maris has the mindset that everything happens for a reason, and everything will work out in the end. I appreciate that, especially since I sometimes attack issues with what some might not call a level head.
Day 7! Hard work! Probably one of my favorite of Marisa's many amazing traits is her work ethic. She has an amazing motor that keeps going. She pretty much has a 5 course meal of things to do all the time, and it seems she is always adding to it. It is important to clarify that activity does not = productivity. However she is extremely productive. She always seems to get it all done, all the time, with time to spare. She is one truly amazing go getter. =)
Day 8: Smile! Back in the day, when I would meet a girl for the first time, the first 2 things I look at are the eyes, and mouth. Eyes, because when you talk to someone, you look them in the eye, you don't want to be looking at a 2 eyed cyclops. Mouth, because when the person smiles you don't want a snaggletooth to look at. I think Marisa has the most beautiful smile. She hates being in pictures, but I would like more of her, just so I can have one more picture of that amazing smile. (:
ay 9: Kissing! Maris just happens to be the best kisser, well of course maybe besides myself, this side of the Milky Way. I'm the type of person, that when I see something I want, I go after it. So with this in mind, after our first date I tried to "roll in". I ended up getting rolled off! Undeterred, I got mine a day later. I was persistent! When I was in the young men's presidency in a previous ward, I gave a lesson on the law of chastity. I told them I never kissed my wife until we knelt across the alter in the temple. They all thought that was neat, until I told them that until that point, she was my girlfriend and we made out all the time. Best lips ever!
Day 10: As you can see over the last few days, Marisa has a lot of amazing qualities. All you men wish you could have her, and all you girls wish you could be her. My favorite thing about her is her individuality. We are all different, and unique in our own way. And she is something really special. All the qualities mentioned previously, plus many more which I did not list make up who she is. My mission president said when I date someone who is too good for me, marry her! I definately married up! Happy Burfday Baby! I love you!
See....like I said. He's the best!

ICE CREAM DELIGHT
First off, happy Mother's Day! I hope everyone has had a wonderful day! I made both dinner and dessert tonight for our family dinner and thought I would post the dessert part. Because c'mon, that's USUALLY the best part, right? The Bubs doesn't like cake, so usually for his birthday I order or make pie for him. I ran across this recipe last year and KNEW he would love it. It's made out of ice cream sandwiches, what's not to love? Well, okay, that's the other reason I made this recipe. It's made out of ice cream sandwiches - I'm not such a fan of them. So I knew I wouldn't be super tempted to eat it. Win win, right? Ironically enough, I received an email from my cute sister-in-law today asking for the recipe, so Britt, this post is for you! What you will need:
24 Ice Cream Sandwiches
12 oz Whipped Topping
Fudge Topping
Caramel Topping
1 pgk Oreos
4 Skor Bars (I couldn't find Skor, so I used Heath instead).
**These would be great with any sort of candy combination. I think next time I make them I will use peanut butter cups or maybe even cookie dough. Hmm.....the possibilities!
Unwrap the ice cream sandwiches and make your first layer (it will take about 12 or so sandwiches. My pan was bigger, so I ended up using more than 24 sandwiches because I needed fillers) Add a layer of whip cream and then top with caramel, fudge, crushed up Heath/Skor bars and Oreos Now, at this point you COULD just leave the cake as is. BUT, why would you want to do that when you can add another layer of yumminess? I said you COULD not that you SHOULD! Finish that bad boy off with another layer of whip cream, caramel, fudge, Heath bar and Oreos and you have one sinful dessert! Just a warning, this can be a little messy to make and even messier to eat! It's also super rich, so a little will go a long way! This was our finished product (my nieces got in on the action at the end). Enjoy!

EMPTY NESTERS
The title pretty much says it all. For the first time in seven years? we are empty nesters. All of our little birdies have flown the coop. Tear. Our last little birdie has gone for the summer to sell security systems in the North Carolina / Virgina area. Since our basement flooded during the winter and was completely demolished, our birdie had to move upstairs with us. It was a hard adjustment for everyone. The Bubs has been more than patient for a man who has had one of his in-laws living with him most of our marriage. I think he's almost reached sainthood. Almost. Everyone has asked us how it's been having the last birdie gone. Has it been a hard adjustment? Is it lonely? Are we bored? Honestly? NOPE! Although it hasn't been quite a week yet, we are really enjoying our time together. We're connecting together better as a couple and enjoying moments of snuggling together on the couch or even coming home to an empty, peaceful house. Although I love our little birdie and do miss him just a teensy bit, I'm looking forward to the summer! Projects, vacations, yard work, date nights. Um, yes please! What are your plans for this summer?
